She couldn’t hide forever. A hard life taught Jayne to avoid men, powerful men most of all. When a new nobleman arrives to take over the vargar, she takes her family and hides. But the new baron seeks her out and makes her an offer she can’t refuse protection. However, once they were sheltered behind the dark stone walls of the vargar, who would protect her from the new master? His reward isn’t what it seems. King Ireic of Anavrea charges Liam, a former bodyguard, with the task of retaking and taming a corner of the northern wilds. Upon arrival at Ashwyn Vargar, Liam finds challenges beyond his military experience. The keys to the vargar are missing and so are the field hands who should be harvesting the fields. Once he finds the keeper of the keys, she raises more questions than answers.

Whew! Wow! This book got intense! And didn't go the way that it seemed to be heading...and actually had me holding my breath for the fate of certain characters...it was great!

I loved Liam and his willingness to pitch in and help out where needed, rather than being puffed up by his new title. Jayne was a bit more difficult to like right away (especially when she wouldn't trust Liam; seriously, how can you not trust Liam?), but her feelings and reactions stayed pretty consistent with her backstory. On that note, there is some serious content involved in her backstory--more than I usually like--but even though it's not glossed over, I didn't feel like it was ever played up for effect. Her little family was wonderful, too! Even in their limited roles, none of them felt like carbon copies, and the young ones struck me as authentic little kids, which can be very difficult to pull off. Well done!

As I already mentioned, the plot didn't take all the turns I expected it to, but it certainly threw in enough unique complications of its own! By the final climax, I was sweating bullets hoping things were going to come out right but not sure how that was going to happen. No spoilers, I'll just say the ending did not disappoint!

Can't leave this review without mentioning that I loved the re-appearance of Ireic and Lirth. Ireic in particular--I just love him to death! In this book, his friendship with Liam in particular was just perfect. And the way he shattered Jayne's expectations of powerful men...I guess if anyone could do it, he would be the one. :)

Some series tend to get weaker toward the end, but that certainly isn't the case with this one. In fact, this book is easily my favorite in the series. 4 glowing stars!

Content--scenes and discussions involving childbirth (a main character is a midwife); talk about a man's illegitimate children and the circumstances of their births; a woman is grabbed and handled roughly; men make insulting remarks to a woman; some violence, including deaths

The Reward of Anavrea The Theodoric Saga Volume 3 Rachel Rossano 9781540549884 Books Reviews

As a reward for saving the queen’s life, Liam is becomes Anavrea’s newest titled lord. But when he enters his new holdings, a fortress and a township, he finds that not all is as it seems, and everything centers around the mysterious Jayne and the neighboring Lord Klian’s claim on her and the property. Will Liam be able to sort everything out, win over Jayne, and defeat Lord Klian before it is too late?

The Reward of Anavrea is a sweet story of love and trust. It is the third book in the Theodoric Saga by Rachel Rossano, featuring Liam from book two and showing his reward for his heroic acts. I enjoyed watching Liam and Jayne fall in love and battle all the pressures surrounding them. They learned to combat fear with love and trust.

Abuse is a major theme in the story, since both Jayne’s father and Lord Klian were terrible abusers and womanizers. At the beginning of the story, poor Jayne viewed all men as such cruel monsters because that is all she ever knew. It was beautiful to watch the healing that she underwent that changed her from a fearful, yet determined, shadow of a woman into a strong, loving wife. However, it seemed a little unbelievable to me that someone who had been hurt as much as she had would change so much in a matter of weeks. Months, or years, more like, would have been more realistic. But that was not possible within the time constraints of the novel.

The Reward of Anavrea sucked me into the story early on and left me wishing for more when it ended. I would critique the time, the grammatical mistakes, and the repetitive themes and characters throughout the series. However, I truly enjoyed this book and the others in the series and would recommend it to fans of sweet historical romance.

I received a copy of this book from the author. All the views expressed are entirely my own.
This book was way too similar to one of her other novels, https//www./Duty-First-Novel-Rhynan-Novels-ebook/dp/B00BAI41RO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481926849&sr=8-1&keywords=duty+rachel+rossano. Other than that, it was pretty good.
Enjoyed this story very much.
The heroine faces her fears, which are real. There are heroes who are honorable in a hard world. A very well told tender love story.
It was such a nice and pleasant read. I always enjoy the simplicity of Mrs. Rossano's romances--simple, but still toe curling.
I love how Rachel Rossano keeps her books modest and clean. I think my favorite book in this series is actually book 2...Rachel keeps readers in suspense but she also has great plots which is how books should be written. This is a wonderful series of books to read.
The Reward of Anavrea is a fantastic addition to the Theodoric Saga. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book in this series and had anxiously awaited this one. Rachel Rossano does a great job making you feel as if you have stepped back in time with her characters.
Jayne has spent her entire life protecting others and working very hard at Ashwyn Vargar. She has endured harsh treatment from powerful men and does her best to avoid them. When Liam, the king's former bodyguard is sent to take over the vargar, she fears what he may do and does not trust him. She must lean on the Lord and trust in her inner courage to face the trials that come her way and decide if she can trust the protection of Liam.
This is a beautifully written story of courage, trust, protection, and love that you won't want to put down. I truly hope there is another book added to this series!
